Overview
While Concrete CMS provides a slick interface for working with pages graphically, there are times when developers will want to set attributes on pages, update pages' names or even add new pages programmatically. The Concrete API makes this easy to do.
Setting Attributes on an Existing Page
Let's say we want to set the value of "Exclude from Nav" on a particular page to true. "Exclude from Nav" is a boolean attribute with the handle "exclude_nav".
$page = \Page::getCurrentPage();
$page->setAttribute('exclude_nav', true);
That's it! More complex attribute types may take more complex values in the second argument. For example, if you have an address attribute for a particular page and you want to set it programmatically, the Address attribute type expects its value to be an array with keys that match the properties of the Concrete\Attribute\Address object:
$page = \Page::getCurrentPage();
$av = array(
'address1' => '123 SW Test',
'address2' => 'Suite 100',
'city' => 'Portland',
'state_province' => 'OR',
'postal_code' => '99999'
);
$page->setAttribute('address', $av);
Updating a Page's Name, Description, Posting Date, or Author
The update method on the Page class takes care of updating many properties of a Page object, based on what array keys are passed to its first (and only) argument.
$page = \Page::getCurrentPage();
$page->update(array(
'cName' => 'My new page name') // this updates the name
));
$page->update(array(
'cName' => 'My new page name'),
'cDescription' => 'My new page description'), // this updates the name AND description
));
$newAuthor = \UserInfo::getByUserName('aembler');
$page->update(array(
'uID' => $newAuthor->getUserID() // updates the author ID on the page
));
$date = date('Y-m-d H:i:s');
$page->update(array(
'cDatePublic' => $date // updates the posting date of the page to right now
));
The following array keys are checked in the update function, and can be passed through to update on the page:
- Page Name (cName)
- Page Description (cDescription)
- Page Posting Date (cDatePublic)
- Page Author (user ID integer) (uID)
- Page Template ID (pTemplateID)
- URL Slug/handle (cHandle)
- Enable Full Page Cache (true/false) (cCacheFullPageContent)
- Override global full page caching lifetime (true/false) (cCacheFullPageContentOverrideLifetime)
- Custom Lifetime for full page cache content (if overridden) (cCacheFullPageContentLifetimeCustom)
Adding a New Page Programmatically
This is taken care of by the Page::add method. First, choose the page under which you'd like to add the new page in the site hierarchy:
$parentPage = \Page::getByPath('/my/articles');
Next, choose the page type for the new page you'd like to add.
$pageType = \PageType::getByHandle('blog_post');
Then, choose a page template for the new page.
$template = \PageTemplate::getByHandle('three_column');
Put it all together, along with a $data array containing properties about the new page you'd like to add (similar to the $data array used above in Page::update. The data array can contain any or all of the following array keys:
- Page Name (cName)
- Page Description (cDescription)
- Page Posting Date (cDatePublic)
- Page Author (user ID integer) (uID)
- URL Slug/handle (cHandle)
- Is the initial page version created approved? Usually defaults to true. (cvIsApproved)
- Package ID (Associates this page specifically with a package) (pkgID)
Full Example
Let's add a new blog entry to our articles section.
$parentPage = \Page::getByPath('/my/articles');
$pageType = \PageType::getByHandle('blog_post');
$template = \PageTemplate::getByHandle('three_column');
$entry = $parentPage->add($pageType, array(
'cName' => 'Hello World!',
'cDescription' => 'Just a quick blog post.',
'cHandle ' => 'hello-all'
), $template);
$entry is the object corresponding to the new page.
Move a Page
Moving or copying a page via the API is easy. Just call the move() method on the page you'd like to move, and provide it the new parent page as its argument. Let's move our new entry into the archives.
$entry = \Page::getByPath('/my/articles/hello-all');
$archives = \Page::getByPath('/archives');
$entry->move($archives);
Copy a Page
Want to copy a page from a particular location? Use a similar pattern.
$starter = \Page::getByPath("/starters/profile-page');
$parent = \Page::getByPath('/profiles');
$newPage = $starter->duplicate($parent);
Now that we have a $newPage object, update it with some real values:
$newPage->update(array('cName' => 'Jane Doe'));
Delete a Page
Deleting a page is simple. Say we want to delete our newly created profile page (which was copied into the '/profiles' section.
$page = \Page::getByPath('/profiles/jane-doe');
$page->delete();
Important
Deleting a page this way will delete it immediately. It will not move it to the trash can. If you'd like to move a page to the trash can, call Page::moveToTrash();
$page = \Page::getByID(200);
$page->moveToTrash();
