Disable Welcome Screen in version 8+

  1. Login to your site and go to the dashboard > system & settings > login & registration > login destination
  2. Set 'redirect users' to homepage instead of desktop
  3. You can also unset the option 'Show the account menu when logged in.' on the tab 'public profiles'

Voila! Loggin in speeds up 1000% after doing this.
