There are three "modes" for a Concrete Site - Development, Staging, and Production. On this dashboard page you can specify which mode your site is currently in.
- Development sites are typically installed on local machines, and used to test Concrete or develop new features and websites.
- Staging sites are typically somewhat publicly accessible, and may have live or soon-to-be live content on them. They are not actively serving the public, however.
- Production sites are live and serving content to an audience.
You can also choose to enable the "Show staging notification to unregistered users" option to show a banner to end users notifying them that this is a stage. This is very useful for distinguishing between Stage and Production sites when you were working on both at the same time.
