SEO & Statistics
Concrete CMS offers a comprehensive SEO & Statistics section in its settings, enabling site administrators to optimize their website for search engines and track user engagement effectively. This section is divided into several key areas, each focusing on different aspects of SEO and site tracking.
URLs and Redirection
The URLs and Redirection section in Concrete CMS's SEO and Statistics settings is vital for managing how your website's URLs are structured and how they redirect. This is essential for both user experience and search engine optimization (SEO).
Pretty URLs
Pretty URLs in Concrete CMS enhance the aesthetics and readability of your website’s URLs.
- Removing Index.php: By default, Concrete CMS includes 'index.php' in URLs. Pretty URLs remove this, making links cleaner (e.g., from
www.site.com/index.php/example
towww.site.com/example
). - .htaccess Modifications: Enabling Pretty URLs automatically updates the .htaccess file to handle the new URL structure.
- Troubleshooting: If issues arise with Pretty URLs, checking the .htaccess file for any anomalies or server-specific configurations is recommended.
Canonical URL
The Canonical URL setting ensures that your website is accessed through one primary domain.
- URL Consistency: Specify a primary domain (canonical URL) for your site, ensuring all site access is uniform.
- Rendering Control: Enable the “Only render at canonical URLs” option to restrict site rendering to the specified canonical URL.
- Preventing Cache Pollution: Setting a canonical URL or controlling domain access is crucial for preventing cache pollution and potential security vulnerabilities.
Bulk SEO Updater
The Bulk SEO Updater is a time-saving tool designed to handle SEO attributes in bulk.
- Search: Start by generating a query of pages that you want to edit in bulk. You can limit by keyword, parts of the site tree, or even look for pages that don't have meta descriptions set. Hit Search to generate a list of pages.
- Edit: You can set the Meta Title, Meta Description, and URL Slug (how the page looks in a toolbar) all from this centralized area quickly. Save individual rows, or everything on a page at once.
Tracking Codes
This section is an easy way to add JavaScript to the header and footer of every page in your site. This is typically used to add analytics and other marketing focused 3rd party integrations. You can also use this space to quickly add JavaScript or CSS shims to your site to adjust display and interaction behavior.
Excluded URL Word List
This tool helps in refining URL slugs by excluding certain words.
- Customization: Administrators can specify words to be excluded from URL slugs, ensuring URLs are concise and relevant.
- SEO Optimization: Helps in creating cleaner, more SEO-friendly URLs by removing unnecessary words.
Search Index
Concrete will try to build a summary table (index) of words it finds across your site for search. Sometimes your pages may have areas where non-relevant content is repeated in ways that might impact the search index's accuracy. You can include/exclude specific block areas from the search index from this interface.
URL Slug
This lets you limit the length of page URLs and make sure special characters don't end up in page URLs.
